Background of het book
‘From the Heart’, a book in which various families experience their daily lives. Where friendship and love form a common thread and many footsteps are taken on the Camino Frances.
As far as I am concerned, friendship and love belong to the basic necessities of life. Walking is part of my life; that is also how I met Ed, my husband.
Meeting people is one of the aspects of walking. You come into contact with other people and you have to do less – you are allowed to do more. Such as enjoying nature, beautiful views, and having nice conversations. Of course, there is also a fair amount of hardship at times, certainly on the Camino. Because no matter which Camino you walk, you usually also come face to face with yourself – an encounter with who you are or who you would like to be.
Life = Experience!
Both aspects also meant a lot to my parents. Unfortunately, I have already lost them both, and that is why I would like to dedicate this book to them;
Dear Dad & Mom, thank you so much for giving me life, teaching me so much, and showing me the world.

Dreamily, she looked out over the beach from the cliff. She had been away too long. “The White Cliffs of Dover,” and it didn’t differ all that much from the Opal Coast in Normandy. Yet, you could see clear signs that those two pieces of land had once been joined. Why, then, return to Great Britain? Family? No, she had none, nor any friends. She went down the stairs and walked along the beach with her shoes in her left hand and a thin voile scarf in her right. She took another deep breath. By a small rock formation, she sat down in the sand. Just like before, she dug her toes into the sand. The deeper sand felt pleasantly cold against her toes. She wriggled a little deeper, using her hands to completely cover her feet with sand (..)
Creativity, instilled from a young age
I learned to write quite quickly, but writing a book is a whole different story. It became a process of years. From desktop to laptop and eventually back to paper. First only in Dutch, later also in English, and so now bilingual. Recording, cutting, pasting, rereading, proofreading, and correcting by dear family and friends, and then having it digitized and made fully accessible by my husband Ed. Thank you very much for the endless efforts you have made, big, big kiss.
